Garnet Mountain Fire Tower

This is a shot of Garnet Mountain in the Gallatin Range. Taken from the approach to StormCastle, this photo catches a glimpse of the fire lookout tower at it's peak at 8,245 feet. The structure is accessible by foot and ATV (when authorized) and by snowshoe in the winter months. The tower is no longer in service, but serves as a back-country "cabin" of sorts. Available for overnight camping through the NPS, it offers incredible views with minimal accommodations while giving campers a very remote experience on a tall peak.
We will be spending a night (or two) very soon and will post pictures and trip report when completed. The views should span the entire Gallatin Range as well as the Madison and Absorka wilderness areas as well. The following site serves as both information and reservation system.
